Siemens has inked an agreement with Hutchison Essar for its music download technology Music2You. the latter will enable full-length songs to be previewed and downloaded on its handsets.

The move would enable service providers to set up a download service over the internet or a mobile communication network, a Siemens release said.

"The selection of music offerings will comprise titles from a variety of major labels, including local content providers," it said.

The cost of the downloads would be charged to the user's telephone bill, it said, adding that the technology restricts unlawful copying of downloaded music.

"Music download is one of the most sought application over mobile," Siemens managing director Michael Kuehner said.

"This technology will help Hutch customers to download full songs of good sound quality at a faster speed," Hutchison Essar chief marketing Officer Naveen Chopra said.

Hutchison Essar has over 16 million customers in the country, the statement said.
