Mahindra British Telecom is considering setting up a telecom software development centre, its third in the country, in Kolkata, a top company official said on Monday.
"We are looking at four locations, including Kolkata, for setting up our third development centre in the country," MBT CEO Vineet Nayyar told reporters.
Besides Kolkata, the company is also considering Chandigarh, Chennai and Noida for setting up the third centre. It already has two software development facilities in Mumbai and Pune.
Nayyar indicated that Kolkata had an edge over other cities, saying that the city's advantage was that it had a quality workforce. A decision on where the centre would be set up would be taken in a month, he said.
The new centre, he said, would employ 400-500 people initially and rope in 1,500 others later.
Currently, 6,000 people were working in the company's Mumbai and Pune centres, which have a combined office area of 700,000 square feet.
The company was also planning to set up a campus over a 30-acre land in Pune, MBT president C P Gurnani said.
