The government said on Wednesday that it will come out with a 'technology-neutral' spectrum policy in tune with global practices while looking forward to introducing the next generation 3G mobile services in the country.
"India will soon come out with a spectrum policy which will be technology-neutral, in tune with the established policy and international practices. We are also committed to ensure that paucity of spectrum does not throttle the growth of the telecom industry," Union IT and Telecom Minister Dayanidhi Maran said at the Third GSM World Congress at Cannes in France.
India is looking forward to introducing 3G services and watching the developments and deployments of 3G networks in other countries, he said.
He invited global telecom manufacturers to set up units in India to make it a hub not only for domestic supplies but also for servicing other countries of the region.
Maran said even with 100 per cent FDI in the manufacturing sector, the expected growth has not happened.
To surpass the target of providing 250 million telephone connections over the next three years, the country has to reduce dependence on imports, he said.
He said India's fiscal, taxation and trade policies will be in tune with the expectations of the telecom manufacturers to achieve the objectives.
