Using VR headsets, customers can go on virtual tours on the automobiles, and operate almost all aspects of the XUV 500 and the Alturas G4 without even getting into the vehicle, reports Rajesh Karkera/Rediff.com.

After making major changes to and upgrades in its products, Mahindra is now focussing on its dealerships.

In a first for the industry, the automobile major has set up over 300 'World of SUVs' where prospective buyers can get an immersive experience using Virtual Reality.

Using VR headsets, customers can go on virtual tours on the automobiles, and operate almost all aspects of the XUV 500 and the Alturas G4 without even getting into the vehicle. This is being termed as Mahindra's 'showroom in showroom' concept, especially for its premium offerings.

Another major change is in the redesign of the showroom interiors, especially the flooring which is being recast to look more rugged, just like its SUVs.

The customer lounges have also been made comfier and more tech savvy, sporting large screens that will display what the sales agent is explaining to you for the whole family to see.

The accessories for the vehicle will also be displayed in a much better manner, plus there will also be a re-fuel lounge where customers can sip on their favorite drinks.

There will be no excessive standees/banners all around either to ensure a clutter-free experience, promised Veejay Ram Nakra, chief of sales and marketing, automotive division, Mahindra & Mahindra, in an interaction on Friday.

Veejay Ram Nakra, chief of sales and marketing, automotive division, Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd, explains how the VR headsets work.

Speaking at the presentation of the World of SUVs, Nakra, said, “The 'World of SUVs' is a differentiated customer experience, a synthesis of next level technology with a physical environment that showcases the brand promise of ‘Live Young Live Free’. In fact, it is built on the foundation of providing convenience, transparency, and personalisation.”

The legendary Thar in its last avatar will be available in aquamarine blue colour, and christened Thar 700.

Mahindra also recently launched a special edition of its beast called the Thar 700. These will be the last 700 of the legendary vehicle in its current avatar before the new edition kicks in.

To further enhance the rugged vehicle's appeal, M&M has added stylised 5-spoke alloy wheels to the Thar 700 with decals on the side and bonnet, black finish on the grille along with a silver finish on the front bumper, branded leatherette upholstery on the front seats plus an anti-lock braking system.

All this will be available at a price of Rs 9.99 lakhs ex showroom.
