India, France to double trade

Aiming to double bilateral trade to 7 billion euros in the next five years France on Tuesday announced Cap Export India programme with a focus on promoting French technology in India.

"Cap Export partnership with India will extend bilateral trade to a wider network of companies extending the benefit of French technology to a larger population," French Minisrer for Foreign Trade Christine Lagarde said in New Delhi.

She said Cap Export is a new French government initiative to support French companies develop operations in strategic international markets by increasing exports, investments and partnerships of small and medium scale enterprises.

It would mobilise resources for SMEs to develop internationally by benefiting from various incentive schemes.

The programme would strengthen France's economic partnership with India and the two countries will implement a pilot committee to continuously increase French business network partnership and resources in India.

India is one of the five priority countries along with the United States, Japan, China and Russia targeted by France.

The Minister also launched 'The image of France in India' campaign. The bilateral trade boosting initiative will be implemented in India by the Indo-French Chamber of Commerce and Industry in conjunction with the Embassy of France, economic mission.
