Mobile phone services in the Kashmir valley have been cut off since Monday night owing to a technical snag in the system caused by incessant rains, snowfall in some areas and shortage in electricity supply, Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd said in Srinagar on Tuesday.
"There is a technical snag in the mobile telephony system somewhere, which was being checked by the engineers. The services will be restored very soon," a BSNL official said.
Mobile phone services in the Kashmir valley were inaugurated by Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee on August 22 last.
The official said the snag was due to incessant rains in the plains and low voltage of electricity or shortage in its supply to the mobile towers in the Valley.
Moderate to heavy rains were experienced for the second day yesterday in the plains while the upper reaches witnessed snowfall for the fifth consecutive day.
