No forcible pvt sector job reservation

Prime Minister Manmohan Singh has assured the industry that the government would not impose its job reservation policy on the private sector and said steps would be taken to uplift the downtrodden.

Singh, during his interaction with the eight-member delegation of the chamber on Monday in New Delhi, reassured that reservation policy would not be imposed on private sector and appropriate steps would be taken to uplift the downtrodden, Indian Merchants' Chamber said in a release on Wednesday.

The good governance and speedy development will definitely yield positive results. "If economy grows, jobs would be created in its natural course", Singh said, according to the release.

Referring to enlargement of employment avenues, the prime minister said there was a need to create more vocational training centers, which would motivate the younger generation towards self-employment.

The government cannot take the entire responsibility and therefore partnership with corporates was the need of the hour to expand employment avenues, he said.

On the issue of development of Mumbai, Singh told IMC delegation that city should be developed on the lines of Shanghai in China.

The issues concerning Land Ceiling Act and restriction on coastal zone development should be discussed with stakeholders, Singh said, the release said.
