The IT spend in India would be mainly driven by security, data protection, business continuity and business growth, a survey conducted by Garnter Executive Programs said.
Indian Chief Information officers are clearly focused on building a solid foundation for long-term performance boost to their enterprises, whereas CIOs in other parts of the world are more concerned about the short-term results, it said.
Indian CIO efforts are concentrated on protecting quality of earnings rather than just automating business for the sake of it. For Indian CIOs, if processes are to be automated, it is important that once done, they are as reliable as possible, it said.
"They are not only investing in IT to gain competitive advantage but also in business process improvement initiatives, which will drive enterprise efficiency. IT is seen as delivering short-term and long-term gains," Gartner EXP vice president and research director Andrew Rowsell-Jones said.
According to Gartner, India has a solid underpinning on enterprise-wide operating costs to ensure that business costs do not go out of line.
The rest of the world, however, ranks enterprise-wide operating costs more strongly.
