Travel insurance for students abroad

August 19, 2003 17:23 IST

ICICI Lombard General Insurance on Tuesday launched a travel insurance scheme for students going abroad for higher studies.

ICICI Lombard's 'Globetrotter Student Travel Insurance' scheme offers medical cover, bail bond for students arrested or detained by police abroad, study interruption cover and sponsor protection in the event of death of the sponsor.

The scheme has two plans -- 'Elite' and 'Classic'. While Classic is a pure health product, the Elite scheme offers added features.

"We see tremendous potential for the student segment aspiring to pursue studies abroad," ICICI Lombard managing director Sandeep Bakhshi said in a statement.

The scheme also provides a 2-way compassionate visit for one immediate family member in the event the student is hospitalised for more than seven days abroad.

ICICI Lombard, the 74:26 joint venture between ICICI Bank and Lombard Canada, is offering the scheme through travel agents and directly as well.
