India's second largest software exporter, Infosys Technologies on Thursday announced it would set up two software development centres in China with a total investment of $65 million in the next five years.
The new centres, to be located at Shanghai and Hangzhou, would accommodate 6,000 engineers, the Bangalore headquartered Infosys said. The company now has 250 employees in China.
Infosys Technologies (Shanghai) Company Ltd, the China subsidiary of Infosys Technologies Ltd, on Thursday signed letters of intent with Shanghai Zhangjiang (Group) Company Ltd and with the Administrative Commission of Hanghzhou Hi-tech Development Industry Zone-Hangshou, it said in a statement.
The Shanghai centre, to be built on 25,000 sq metres, would get an initial investment of $10 million in the next two years. At the same time, Infosys plans to invest $15 million on the Hangzhou project to be built on a 100,000 sq metres land.
"Infosys follows a strategy of setting up world-class software development centres in locations where there is a rich local talent as well as the required infrastructure," Infosys Technologies (Shanghai) Company Ltd, CEO and managing director, James Lin was quoted as saying in the statement.
James said the new centres would undertake projects in software development, IT services and IT-enabled services and would also act as one of the training and research centres in the country.
