After remaining firm for two consecutive weeks, inflation fell marginally by 0.14 per cent to 4.26 per cent for the week ended April 24 even as prices rose for fruits, vegetables, eggs and various manufactured items, including edible oils.

The point-to-point wholesale price index inflation fell from the previous week's level of 4.4 per cent despite fuel prices remaining unchanged amidst violent gyrations in the international markets.

The general price level was high at 6.7 per cent in the previous year period.

The WPI was up by 0.3 per cent to touch 181.1 points due to a substantial price rise in the primary items consisting of vegetables and fruits, and the heavy-weighted manufactured products. The index was at 173.7 points in the year-ago period.

The government had revised downwards inflation to 5.21 per cent for the week ended February 28 as against the provisional level of 5.32 per cent.

The final WPI stood corrected at 179.8 points during the last week of February as compared to the provisional figure of 180 points.
