Despite the continued surge in the operating cost of carriers, Indian Airlines on Friday launched its non-metro sector service in which a passenger would have to pay Rs 1000 plus some additional tax to fly to non-metro cities in the country.
Under this scheme, a passenger travelling on non-metro sector in conjunction with a metro sector will have to pay only Rs 1000 extra.
Valid until October 15 this year, the scheme is aimed at shifting focus on the large untapped market of smaller cities and mini-metros.
It also aims at converting occasional need-based air travellers from these locations into regular air travellers.
With this, the domestic carrier will cover 224 metro and non-metro combinations but excludes such sectors, which are not linked with a direct flight.
