After making its network EDGE-enabled, cellular major Hutch has joined hands with NDTV, allowing its subscribers to download TV content on their cell phones.
"This services comes at no extra cost other than monthly subscription to the Hutch GPRS service for Rs 99 only," Harit Nagpal, chief marketing officer, Hutch, told PTI.
This is part of the company's efforts to maximize revenues from value-added services.
Hutch has claimed to have 200,000 GPRS-enabled subscribers currently. It had started GPRS services in February last year with a subscriber base of just 500.
Asked if the company was talking to other channels on similar lines, Nagpal said, "We are in talks with a host of TV channels and similar tie-ups were expected in the days to come."
Other than NDTV, Hutch subscribers would be able to access content from Nicklodeon channel catering to kids, and Trendz dedicated to latest fashion designs, he added.
Hucth, on Wednesday, had launched Enhanced Data for GSM Evolution services, offering its customers higher speed for Internet connections, downloads and multimedia mobile services like video streaming.
EDGE, which is an upgrade from the GPRS (General Packet Radio Services) networks, provides data downloads at 80 to 100 kbps speed, five to six times those of existing GPRS speeds, Nagpal said.
