Gujarat is all set to produce 15 per cent of the power India hopes to generate in the 11th Five Year Plan, chief minister Narendra Modi has said.

This is possible only if the central government cooperates, Modi told the recent Conference of Chief Ministers here.

The Gujarat chief minister noted an urgent need to increase power production in the country to accelerate India's economic process. Gujarat has organized for capacity addition of 11000 MW of power during the 11th Five Year Plan which is 15 per cent of the national target of 78000 MW, he added.

The Planning Commission, the government of India and the nation expect states like Gujarat to achieve 11 per cent economic growth to help the country grow at 9 per cent during the 11th Five Year Plan.

One impediment for Gujarat's progress is the refusal of the central government to raise the height of the Narmada project, Modi said. If the dam reaches its full height, it can produce one third more power that would also benefit neighboring states of Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh, he added.
