The Opposition parties led by Congress accused the Centre, on Wednesday, about sending contradictory signals on economic reforms and said the mid-year economic review was silent on how it proposed to achieve the Tenth Plan target of 8 per cent growth.
Leader of the Opposition Manmohan Singh said in Rajya Sabha, the government' volte face on reduction of interest rates and the criticism from within BJP on the valid recommendations made by Kelkar committee sent a wrong signal to the country.
He also said the government has also made no mention in the review about the steps itwould take to tackle the core issue of unemployment and poverty.
The former finance minister said the flip-flop attitude on the proposals to cut subsidies and fiscal prudence were also not correct.
He also said that things which bother people should constitute the core issue and unfortunately these issues are missing in the review.
He also said with the mid-year review projecting a 5 to 5.5 per cent growth rate for this financial year, Singh wondered how the government proposed to achieve a target of annual eight per cent set for the entire plan period.
