The spurt was attributed to the 'sharp rise' in gold price in the global market, industry sources said.
The previous high was recorded on Dec 12 last, when standard gold was quoted at Rs.8160 per 10 grams and ornament gold at Rs 756 per gram.
The market commenced on a firm note. Standard gold spurted by Rs 70 per 10 grams to open at Rs 8,220, and later edged down to finish at Rs 8215 over yesterday's close of Rs 8,150, gaining Rs 65.
