Pure gold (99.9 purity) also started the day at a historic high of Rs 6710 per ounce.
However, in the global market, gold prices moved narrowly as US markets remained closed on Thanksgiving Day.
Price movement in the local market was also dull as standard gold (99.5 purity) showed a small gain of Rs 5, but managed to touch the historic high of Rs 6675 as against Wednesday's close of Rs 6670.
Similarly, pure gold (99.9 purity) also edged up by a similar margin to Rs 6710 from Rs 6705 during the opening session.
In New York, gold edged up only by $1.40 per ounce on Tuesday as trading remained dull ahead of Thanksgiving Day holiday and closed at $449.30.
