Union Finance Minister P Chidambaram on his arrival at Chennai from Delhi on Wednesday refused to take the official vehicle and instead preferred his private car to proceed to the city from the airport.
Chidambaram told the Liasion Officer and the driver of the vehicle that for over 20 years he had been travelling by his own vehicle and would continue the practise, according to the airport sources.
The Tamil Nadu government's protocol department should not send an official vehicle whenever he visits the city, Chidambaram told the concerned official, the sources said.
