Indian Consulate blacklists 27 Dubai firms

June 22, 2006 14:01 IST
The Indian Consulate in Dubai has blacklisted 27 Dubai-based companies after complaints of exploitation of workers.

''The companies have been listed in a 'prior-approval' category, which means that any recruitment to these companies will require approval from the consulate in Dubai,'' an official said.

These companies have defaulted on salary payments, offered substandard facilities, failed to pay gratuity or treated workers badly.

The list has already been sent to the immigration department in New Delhi, according to media reports in Dubai.

The consulate receives an average of ten labour complaints each day from individual workers, while group complaints are around 12 per month.
