Domestic airlines join relief efforts in Chennai

The airlines have waived charges for transport of relief cargo to Chennai.

Domestic airlines Jet Airways, IndiGo and SpiceJet have pitched in to assist relief measures for flood victims in Chennai.

The airlines have waived charges for transport of relief cargo.

Jet Airways said it has made available cargo space for relief material for Chennai free of cost.

The first consignment of over one tonne containing food supplies, baby food, medicines and blankets was delivered in Chennai.

"More consignments of relief material are being accepted and will be delivered to Chennai over the next few days," the airline said in a statement.

SpiceJet said it is transporting one tonne of relief material and has been approached by Delhi Gurudwara Prabhandhak Committee and Sewa Bharti among others to help them in moving relief material to Chennai.

IndiGo is planning to extend support to the people of Chennai under company's corporate social responsibility (CSR) program.

Under this programme IndiGo is transporting relief material for Chennai residents and its employees.

Transport of relief material began few days ago to Bengaluru and onward via road to Chennai.

To ensure IndiGo employees, affected families and other local partners get right vaccinations- IndiGo will ship vaccinations for typhoid, hepatitis and cholera.
