In a humanitarian gesture, Coca Cola India has decided to rejuvenate all old and defunct baawdis (step wells) in Rajasthan at its own expense to meet the water requirements of villagers in the desert state.

Giving details about the ambitious programme, company vice president Deepak Jolly said they had earlier this year restored the dilapidated 400-year-old Sarai baawdi at Amer in partnership with Jaipur Municpal Corporation which is now supplying water to nearly 4,000 villagers.

It had now joined hands with the JMC to bring back to its glory another 400-year-old step well - the Kale Hanuman ki Baawdi - near Amer within six months which would benefit round 10,000 residents in the area, Jolly said.

In all 17 such projects had been identified by the JMC and the company for restoration work, he added.
