Maharashtra Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh would be making a strong pitch for attracting foreign investment during a presentation at the World Economic Forum in Davos.

Inviting global business leaders to invest in Maharashtra, Deshmukh would be making a presentation at the four-day WEF meet in Switzerland beginning on January 23, official sources said.

The Chief Minister would focus on Maharashtra's progress on various fronts like infrastructure and energy and also the 'business-friendly' situation in the top industrialised state.

Deshmukh is scheduled to participate in interactive sessions on topics like making India an International Finance Centre, urban infrastructure and on how cities are aiming for sustainable growth.

He recently said that Maharashtra had received appreciation from the Centre for effectively implementing projects under the Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission aimed at improving urban infrastructure.

Between April 2004 and August 2007, Maharashtra received investment proposals of Rs 13,3693 crore (Rs 1336.93 billion), which reflects the confidence of investors in Maharashtra, an official said.

Last year, politics had prevailed over economics and Deshmukh missed the Davos meet as the party leadership felt his presence was needed in the state in view of the civic polls. However, Congress failed to unseat the Shiv Sena-BJP alliance in the Mumbai civic election.
