Action plan on climate change by June

June 04, 2008 01:05 IST

The government is finalising the national action plan on climate change and would release this in June, said Shyam Saran, Prime Minister's special envoy for climate change.

The action plan would focus on key issues like improving energy efficiency, harnessing solar energy, studying the melting and cracking of icebergs on the Himalayas and understanding the dynamics of coastal and island territories.

Addressing the students of the Indian School of Business in Hyderabad on negotiating position on climate change, he said the action plan would consider the risks that climate change posed to India and how the country should adapt itself for sustainable development. India, with a per capita carbon dioxide emissions of about 1.1 tonne, accounted for just 4 per cent of the global emissions.

The plan would contain mechanisms for implementation of various policies including under public-private partnerships, he said.
