Confederation of Indian Industry president Ashok Soota said on Friday that India should take up at the World Trade Organisation the issue of protectionism that affects natural movement of professionals across borders.

Soota told a press conference in Banglaore that Sweden has promised support to India if New Delhi took such an initiative.

His comment came in response to a question about the arrest in London of a senior official of the Indian company, i-flex, on alleged visa violations.

Soota strongly denied that Indian IT companies were violating visa regulations.

"Indian industry is aware of the rules. There may be one or two exceptions," he said.

Soota, who is also the chief of software major MindTree Consulting, asserted that Indian IT industry was highly ethical and there has been no broad-scale visa violations by it, adding Indian companies operating abroad, however, need to be cautious.
