India will emerge as the global leader in the services sector in the next few years not only in the software sector and IT-enabled services but also in health, design, engineering, education and maintenance, said Tarun Das, director general, Confederation of Indian Industry on Friday.

Addressing a press conference in Kochi, he said services sector was doing well and software in spite of US slow down was growing by about 30 per cent per annum while IT enabled services were growing by about 70 per cent.

The infrastructure sector, he said, had witnessed growth thanks to numerous development projects.

During the last three years the manufacturing sector had problems because of competition and low growth, he said, adding this year there was a change.

The data collected by the CII from the industries every month had shown that the manufacturing sector recovery was continuing and the demand was increasing, he said.

There was better performance by the corporate sector as was seen in their balance sheet, he added.

Pointing out that the Budget was likely to focus largely on tax issues, Das said it would further stimulate growth for the manufacturing sector.

On the Global Investors Meet held in Kochi recently, Das said it had projected the image of Kerala in a very positive way.
