Charles discusses climate change with corporates

Prince Charles on Monday met senior Indian business leaders and discussed ways to facilitate bilateral investment in low carbon areas between the UK and India.

Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry president and Bharti Enterprises vice president Rajan Bharti Mittal chaired a symposium on corporate leadership on climate change in the presence of the Prince of Wales, who is in New Delhi in connection with the Commonwealth Games.

The participants discussed what role business leadership can play in developing a framework for promoting low carbon goods and services trade, according to a statement issued by the British High Commission.

The symposium was based on recent discussions held by the UK-India Business Leaders Climate Group.

It is a business-led group actively focused on identifying UK-India business collaboration and facilitate the transition to a new low carbon economy in the UK and India.

Besides, UKIBLCG would launch a report in London on November 15 to enhance collaboration that builds on the relative strengths of the Indian-UK business communities, the statement said.

Prince Charles had interacted with a number of top business leaders from both the nations and extended support to their initiatives on October 2 as well.

Indian business leaders who recently met Prince Charles include Shobhana Bhartia of the Hindustan Times Group, Sunil Bharti Mittal of Bharti Group, Subrata Roy Sahara of Sahara India Pariwar, Ratan Jindal and Navin Jindal of the Jindal Group and Sunil Munjal of the Hero Group.

Currently, the bilateral trade between the two countries stands at 11 billion pounds per year and Indian investment in the UK is worth approximately 9 billion pounds.
