The export of passenger cars increased to Rs 715.95 crore (Rs 7.16 billion) in April-May, 2004-05 as against Rs 484.21 crore (Rs 4.84 billion) in the corresponding period in 2003-04, Lok Sabha was informed on Friday.
In a reply to a written question, the Minister of State for Commerce E V S Elangovan said there was a rise in export of passenger cars during 2004-05 with 23,551 cars being exported in the period under review as against 15,928 in April-May, 2003-04.
The total number of cars exported in 2003-04 stood at 126,249.
To another question, he said the government and the Gems and Jewellery Export Promotion Council has taken several steps to increase the export of gems and jewellery.
