Replying to questions in Rajya Sabha, he said CAG in its audit observations has pointed out financial irregularities of Rs 1404.32 crore (Rs 14.04 billion) in its 2008 report and Rs 4547.63 crore (Rs 45.47 billion) in the 2007 report.
Deshmukh said CAG has also pointed out reasons for deficiencies in the accounts of PSUs.
He said in order to effectively monitor and expedite the follow up action on CAG report, each administrative ministry or department has also set up a monitoring cell.
On CAG observations, the minister said the concerned administrative ministry or department is required to submit Action Taken Notes to the office of CAG for their vetting.
"Submission of the ATNs by respective ministry/department after getting the same vetted by the office of CAG is a continuous process," he added.
