On the other hand, cable and DTH players are disappointed over the imposition of five per cent import duty on set-top boxes (STBs), saying that it would be passed on to consumer and hit the process of digitalisation.
"We are happy that the custom duty on flat panel has been dropped to five per cent. Now we are in a position to roll back the recent hike of five per cent across all our LCD TVs," Amitabh Tiwari, business group head, LG India told PTI.
Expressing happiness over the Budget proposal, R Zutshi, deputy MD, Samsung India said bringing down the custom duty would also result in reducing the manufacturing costs of LCD TVs and will boost growth.
"This should result in bringing down the manufacturing costs of LCD TVs in the country and further fuel the growth of this segment," Zutshi said.
Expressing similar sentiment, Consumer Electronics Appliances Manufacturers Association General Secretary Suresh Khanna said, "This is a positive sign and this would encourage manufacturing in India."
