Cess on petrol and diesel will be increased by 50 paise per litre in the coming fiscal to raise additional resources for National Highways Development Project, government said in the Lok Sabha on Monday.
"The additional resources will be earmarked for national highways and a suitable amendment is being proposed to the Central Road Fund Act, 2000 to this effect," Finance Minister P Chidambaram announced while presenting the 2005- 06 Union Budget.
