The country's first large-scale desalination plant will be set up in Chennai, Finance Minister P Chidambaram announced in the Lok Sabha on Thursday.
In his budget speech for 2004-05, he said the project, expected to cost Rs 1,000 crore, would have a capacity to supply 300 million litres of water in the metropolis.
