Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited would shortly sign memoranda of understanding with Korea Telecom and Microsoft for rolling out broadband services under the National Internet Backbone phase two project in the country, its chairman and managing director V P Sinha said.

Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of the national convention of All India BSNL Executives' Association, in Kolkata on Wednesday, Sinha said that while Korea Telecom would be entrusted in carrying out the market survey about the subscribers, Microsoft would provide the required software in regional languages.

Sinha said that the total cost of the project was Rs 2,000 crore (Rs 20 billion), adding that BSNL was aiming at a subscriber base of 50,000 in the first three months which would be increased to 200,000 in the subsequent six months.

The broadband rollout would involve data transfer at high speeds in addition to video conferencing and video transmission.

At a later stage, the corporation would sign another MoU with a firm, which will be the content provider, he said.
