Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd has got around 40,000 customers for its 3G services. The company is also offering free migration to 3G services from August 15.

BSNL started rolling out 3G services in north and east zones in February 2009, gradually expanding it to 113 cities. It had garnered a total subscriber base of 10,733 during the first four months itself.

Initially, there was less coverage in the cities. That was gradually improved to cover entire cities. Also, at the time of the launch, only four services were available -- video calling, video conferencing, mobile TV and mobile broadband.

On July 20, the company introduced more services, like video on demand, video screening, full track music download and online multiple player games, among others.

The company is also slashing 3G services charges, effective August 15. It is offering 3G SIMs for Rs 59, pre-paid activation for Rs 120 and post-paid activation for Rs 225.

Free unlimited video calls are also being offered for connections for one month from the date of activation for connections provided up to August 31.
