The government will soon invite bids for 10 mega highway projects under, pubic-private partnership, and is in the process of making feasibility reports.

"The National Highways Authority of India has made initial identification of 10 mega projects in various states for implementation in a phased manner," Minister of State for Road Transport and Highways R P N Singh told the Lok Sabha on Tuesday.

Sources said that these mega projects, under the public-private partnership, entails an investment of Rs 45,000 crore (Rs 450 billion) to build more than 4,800 km of modern highways.

"The process of invitation of bids for these mega projects is linked to preparation of the feasibility reports and their appraisal for implementation on pubic-private partnership basis after following the laid down procedures," the minister said in a written reply.

The projects include six-laning of highway stretches in Rajasthan, Gujarat and Andhra Pradesh, four-laning of highway stretches in Gujarat, Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh and two-laning with paved shoulders of stretches in Punjab and Rajasthan.

The other stretches to be build under the mega projects are in Goa, Bihar and West Bengal.

The formulation of the mega projects is in initial stages, Singh said.
