About 900,000 bank employees will go on strike from June 12 in support of their demand for wage revision.

The United Forum of Bank Employees Union has taken this decision of going on strike after failure of talks with the Indian Banks Association on May 11, C H Venkatachalam, convenor of UFBU, said.

The IBA wanted to attach some precondition before conceding their demands of wage revision which was unacceptable to UFBU, he said.

"The IBAs offer of 15 per cent hike in the salary attaching it with pre-condition of pension scheme is not acceptable to the UFBU," Venkatachalam said.

"During meeting with the IBA on May 11, we informed it that the UFBU is ready to discuss the issue with an open mind upon receiving the IBAs proposed new pension scheme and that this should not be made a pre-condition for finalising," he said.
