Bangladesh on Thursday agreed in principle to India's proposal for a bilateral Free Trade Agreement to boost economic cooperation and solve issues relating to tariff and non-tariff barriers.
This was conveyed by visiting Bangladesh Finance and Planning Minister Saifur Rahman during talks with External Affairs Minister Yashwant Sinha. Rahman also called on Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee.
Rahman extended Dhaka's support for transport arrangements like Agartala-Dhaka and Akhoura-Agartala rail linkages.
The two sides also examined steps to improve infrastructure at the border, particularly relating to storage facilities.
They underlined the need for the Joint Economic Commission to meet more regularly, external affairs ministry spokesman told reporters adding its next meeting will be held in Dhaka in July.
Rahman's trip is a continuation of a series of high-level visits between the two countries.
