Small car to adorn big stall at Auto Expo

Tata Motors will have the largest pavilion, spread over 5,000 sq mt at the upcoming 9th Auto Expo, where it will unveil the much talked about Rs 1 lakh car, according to Rajive Kaul, chairman of the CII National Committee on Trade Fairs.

The Auto Expo, touted as the largest auto exhibition in Asia, covering around 1,20,000 sq mt, would be held in New Delhi from January 10 to 17.

Apart from the small car, the event will witness the launch of the Hummer and Cadillac, two high-end General Motors cars, a commercial vehicle from Bajaj and a hybrid from Honda Civic.

The Hummer, Cadillac and the Honda hybrid would be among the maiden launches of eight to ten passenger vehicles in India at the expo, Kaul added.

The auto show will also feature four to five concept vehicles.

The expo, organised jointly by the Confederation of Indian Industry, Auto Components Manufacturers Association and the Society for Indian Automobile Manufacturers (Siam), will have over 200 participants from 25 countries, including Canada, China, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, the UK and the US.

General Motors, Volkswagen, Toyota, Renault, Tata Motors, Maruti Suzuki, Mahindra and Mahindra, Hero Honda, Yamaha, Ashok Leyland, TVS Motors are some the companies which will participate in the event.

The expo would display commercial vehicles as well as auto components and car accessories.

"By 2030, India is poised to be the third-largest automotive market in the world after the US and China. India's automotive industry is worth $32 billion and is expected to grow to $145 billion by 2016," Kaul claimed.

The country exported auto components worth $2 billion in FY07. Component exports are growing at a CAGR (compounded annual growth rate) of 14 per cent.
