The Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation expects a 10 per cent growth in sales turnover during the current fiscal and plans to open 500 'Amul Preferred Outlets' across India.
"This year, our milk procurement is expected to grow by 12 per cent to an average of 55 lakh litres per day. Based on this, we expect a 10 per cent growth in turnover," R S Khanna, Officer on Special Duty, GCMMF, told PTI.
The cooperative reported a sales turnover of Rs 2,882 crore for 2003-04 with milk contributing Rs 1,000 crore.
GCMMF is also strengthening its retail presence by setting up 500 'Amul Preferred Outlets' across the country.
The new retail strategy takes a leaf out of NDDB's 'Mother Dairy' outlet model.
The outlets will be exclusively selling Amul dairy products in metro cities. Under the concept, Amul is inviting shopkeepers to invest Rs 100,000, while it will help them set up the interiors of their outlets.
"Within next one month we will be rolling out this project in Delhi. We are already in talks with 50 people and by the end of this year, there will be 500 Amul Preferred Outlets across the country," said Khanna.
Amul has already test-marketed the concept in the Infosys campus in Bangalore and at IBP petrol pumps. The outlets would now be opened in big retail spaces including the office areas of large corporate houses.
GCMMF is also looking at launching low-fat butter this year. The cooperative is also rolling out buttermilk in the market this month.
