After ice-creams and pizzas, it is the turn of mouth watering and hygienic, machine-made 'laddus' to be churned out from the renowned Amul stable.

Having established itself in the cheese, ice-cream and pizza markets, dairy cooperative major Amul will now introduce its 'Avsar' laddus in the run-up to Diwali.

"The experimental run has been conducted in our dairy using a ball-forming machine and the sample 'laddus' in two varieties of 'churma' and 'besan' dished out have been relished by the people. They will be marketed by Amul and a formal launch is scheduled by Diwali", H K Desai, chief executive of Anand-based Vidya Dairy said.

Amul officials said the 'laddus' will be launched next month on a small scale of 200-250 kgs per day but the quantities may be increased later on the basis of the response from the consumers.

They will be initially sold by Amul through its own exclusive outlets in one kilogram and half kilogram. The 'churma' and 'besan' varieties are priced at Rs 100 and Rs 130 per kg respectively.

Desai said the machine at Vidya Dairy would prepare 18-20 'laddus' of 30 grams each every minute and depending on the market, the production could be taken up on a bigger scale in large units, he pointed out.

The 'churma' is 'besan' mixed with sugar and ghee in the right proportions. It has been successfully formed into balls by the machine in the dairy and the process can be emulated elsewhere, he added.
