The government on Thursday said the issue of an initial public offering of Air-India and Indian Airlines was at a preliminary stage of discussion.

"The issue of IPO of Air-India and Indian Airlines is at a preliminary stage of discussion," Civil Aviation Minister Praful Patel told the Lok Sabha in a written reply.

Asked about the leasing of 12 wide-bodied aircraft by Indian Airlines, he said the board of directors of the carrier had given in-principle approval for the induction of 12 such planes on dry lease for a period of five years or three years extendable to five years.

He said in-house committee of the Airlines had identified international routes to the UK, the US, Australia, Saudi Arabia, Hong Kong and Malaysia for flying.
