The banks have been directed by govt to open at least one account for an adult member of every household
During a video conference with the executive directors of both private and public sector banks, the banks were directed by the government to open at least one account for an adult member of every household.
As per the government survey the household coverage has increased to 89 per cent but around 21.8 million households are still uncovered.
Banks have been tasked to cover all the households before the end of December and seek public feedback to ascertain and open accounts for the leftover households.
"Banks were asked to develop a system to redress the complaint in three days where no investigation is required and in seven days where detailed investigation is required," the government statement said.
