Statistical Highlights 5th match: India v New Zealand at Delhi on 17-11-99

• This match was the 1526th in Limited Over international (LOI) history.

• This match was India's 425th and New Zealand's 337th in LOIs.

• This match was the 57th meeting between the two sides.

• This match was the 11th to be played at this venue. India has played nine matches, while it was New Zealand's second at this venue. The Kiwis played the home team on 3-11-1994 in the Wills World Series. India had won the match by 107 runs.

• This match was the 149th to be played during this calendar year.

• It was India's 43rd - which incidentally will remain a record for the maximum matches played by any team in a calendar year. New Zealand was playing in its 26th match in 1999.

• The two umpires SK Sharma and VM Gupte created a record of sorts when they officiated together for the first time in this match. Their are both the sons of former international Test umpires - HP Sharma and MY Gupte.

• Devang Gandhi became the 127th player to appear for India in a LOI match.

• Roger Twose was appearing in his 50th LOI match. He becomes the 29th New Zealander and 209th player in LOI history to do so.

• Dravid's catch of Spearman was his 20th catch during this calendar year in his 37th match as a fielder (it excluding matches where he kept wickets). It was also the maximum by any fielder in 1999. He now becomes the fifth fieldsman after West Indians Viv Richards (in 1989) and Brian Lara (in 1993), Indian Azharuddin (in 1996, 1997, 1998) and Pakistani Ijaz Ahmed (in 1997) to take 20 or more catches in a calendar year. Richards however holds the record for the maximum catches of 24 in 1989.

• Sunil Joshi after his record haul of five wickets for six runs at Nairobi against South Africa on 26-9-1999, had not captured a wicket in 40.2 overs while conceding 162 runs in the last five matches until the wicket of Roger Twose, which incidentally was his 50th in 51 matches. He now becomes the 15th Indian and the 114 bowler to do so.

• T Kumaran's figures of 3-24 was the second best figures by an Indian bowler at this venue. The best still remains as the 3-19 by Mohammad Azharuddin against Australia on 22-10-1987.

• The partnership of 117 between the Bengal pair of Sourav Ganguly and Devang Gandhi was the highest for the opening wicket at this venue. It betters the previous best of 100 between Ajay Jadeja and Tendulkar also against New Zealand on 3-11-1994.

• Ganguly's 86 has taken his tally of runs during this calendar year to 1767 (avg 46.50) - the maximum by any batsman in 1999. He overtook the aggregate of 1761 runs (46.34) of Rahul Dravid during this match.

• Ganguly's 86 was the highest by a left-handed batsman at this venue surpassing the 79 by Sri Lankan Sanath Jayasuriya against India 2-3-1996.

• The stumping of Ganguly was Parore's 85th dismissal of his career in his 97th match. He now becomes New Zealand's top wicket-keeper in LOIs with maximum dismissals (66ct+19st). He betters the tally of Ian Smith who has 84 dismissals (79ct+5st) also in 97 matches.

• It was Tendulkar's 12th duck of his LOI career, which equals the tally of Anil Kumble and Javagal Srinath. He is now just one short of the Indian record of Kapil Dev, who has 13 ducks.

• The "caught & bowled" dismissal of Tendulkar was also his 10th of his career. Among Indians only Azharuddin (14) and Jadeja (11) have been dismissed in this manner in LOIs on more occasions. Interestingly, Tendulkar now has been "caught & bowled" on four occasions against New Zealand. This equals Sri Lankan Aravinda deSilva's tally - the most occasions by any batsman against New Zealand.

• New Zealand has never won a bilateral LOI series against India since its 2-0 win at home in 1980-81.

• This was India's only second series win during this year. It had won the DMC Cup at Toronto two months ago in September.

• The last occasion Indian won a LOI Trophy under Tendulkar was in September 1997 when it won the Sahara Cup at Toronto.

• For Sourav Ganguly it was his third man of the series award for the year. He was declared the man of the series in April during the Pepsi Triangular final at Bangalore and then in September he was once again given in the series award in the India-West Indies Cricket festival at Toronto.

• The man of the match award was Ganguly's 18th of his career in his 126th match to equal the tally of Azharuddin. Now among Indians only Tendulkar (35) has more such awards.

• It was Ganguly's seven such award during this calendar year. He equals the tally of South African Lance Klusener for the maximum MOM awards in 1999.
