Police raid Opposition leaders's houses

In a crackdown on Opposition Joint Action Committee leaders, the police raided the houses of Sikkim Ekta Manch leader Thuk Chuk Lachungpa, president Lakshmi Prasad Tewari, Sikkim Tribal Association leader Kunjan Sherpa and newly-floated Sikkim National Front president M M Rasaily in Gangtok.

Following this, most leaders are reported to have gone underground. Tewari alleged that the raids were part of a government plan to implicate his party members in a 'conspiracy'.

The Sikkim Communist Party of India-Marxist had criticised the Opposition parties for their role in creating a law and order problem in the state. In a release, they alleged that the Opposition was distorting facts to suit their political ends.

The Communists had also flayed Sikkim Governor Chowdhury Randhir Singh for failing to tackle the situation.
