Jaipur bandh over gang rape of student

Most shops and business establishments in Jaipur remained closed on Monday after students forced a bandh to protest against the gang rape of a girl in a hostel room of the Rajasthan University campus in the city on Friday.

The Jaipur bandh, called by the Akhil Bharatiya Vidhyarthi Parishad and the Akhil Rajasthan Chhatra Mahasangh -- was by and large peaceful, the police said. However, the police used "mild force" to disperse mobs which gathered at Chandpole and Tripolia and near the SMS hospital to protest against the incident.

A group of students resorted to ''rasta roko'' at a few places, including Chhoti Chauper. They also damaged two buses.
