Vice-presidential poll on August 16

The 11th vice-presidential election will be held on August 16.

Announcing this on Friday, Chief Election Commissioner M S Gill said the notification for the election will be issued on July 15.

The last date of filing nominations is July 29.

Scrutiny will take place the next day and the last day of withdrawal of candidature is August 1, he said.

Polling, if necessary, will take place from 1000 hours to 1700 hours on August 16. The counting of votes would be taken up on the same day.

The electoral college for the vice-presidential election comprises members of both Houses of Parliament.

The nomination papers of the vice-presidential candidates have to be proposed and seconded by 40 members of the electoral college.

Besides, a sum of Rs 15,000 is required to be submitted as security deposit.
