Dr Abdullah blasts anti-Muslim OIC members

Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Dr Farooq Abdullah has said that some members of the Organisation of Islamic Countries ''were not well-wishers of the Muslims because they had jeopardised the interests of nearly 200 million Indian Muslims''.

Speaking at a rally in Jammu yesterday after being re-elected president of his party, the National Conference, Dr Abdullah said, ''Those pretending to be the messiah of Muslims never uttered a word about barbarism and gross human rights violations perpetuated by the militants in the valley,'' he said.

Condemning Pakistan, Dr Abdullah said, ''On the one hand it cries itself hoarse about self-determination for Muslims in Kashmir, and on the other hand, it masterminds atrocities on them.''

Killing even a single innocent person is un-Islamic and a heinous crime against humanity which entails strict punishment. ''They are crying for the sake of Islam but do not appreciate its high values.''

Referring to the killings of NC workers since 1990, when militancy took an upward curve, and the recent attack on NC legislator Sadiq Ali's residence in Srinagar, he said his party would not cow down before the militants. ''It will continue to fight for the cause of people to strengthen the bonds of communal harmony.''
