Rabri briefs PM about Laxmanpur-Baitha massacre

Bihar Chief Minister Rabri Devi met Prime Minister Inder Kumar Gujral today and apprised him of the law and order situation in the state and the measures taken to tighten the same in the context of last week's Laxmanpur-Baitha massacre.

The chief minister, who was summoned by the Centre in the wake of the massacre, said she needed additional central paramilitary forces to check extremism in the state. She said there was need for modern weapons, wireless communication and vehicles for making the Bihar police more effective in dealing with the situation.

The chief minister informed the prime minister of the various administrative measures taken by her government after the massacre, including the transfer of the officers concerned.

She said the cases related to the massacre would be investigated by a special investigation team and the guilty punished through expeditious trial.

She described the recent massacre as part of a well-conceived conspiracy to defame the state government.
