Weak response to Bodo Assam bandh call, say officials

The 36-hour Assam bandh called by the All-Bodo Students Union failed to evoke response except in Bodo-dominated areas of the state, an official report received in Guwahati said.

The ABSU had called the bandh demanding among others a separate state of Bodoland. Shops and businesses downed shutters in Bodo-dominated districts like Kokrajhar, Nalbari, Bongaigaon, Darrang and Sonitpur. Banks and vehicular traffic was also affected in these areas.

Life in other parts of the state was not affected and transport plied as usual. On the national highway in Kokrajhar district, vehicles operated under police escort.
