Sachin Vaze, 48 encounters, one went wrong

March 31, 2008
The youngest among the class of 1983, the tech-savvy Vaze was Sharma's blue-eyed boy. It is even said that he was among the many reasons for the bad blood between Sharma and Nayak.

He shot to prominence when Khwaja Younus, a suspect in the 2002 serial bomb blasts disappeared when a police vehicle taking him to Nasik for investigation met with a road accident. Younus's family members suspect he is victim of custodial torture, and the Bombay High Court directed the CID to probe in this direction.

Vaze was alleged to have murdered Yunus in cold blood and also tampered with evidence.

Though Vaze and all other policemen were acquitted by a POTA court, he quit service and took up a corporate job.
