In the backdrop of escalated stand-off between the Congres-led United Progressive Alliance and its outside supporters the Left parties, senior Bharatiya Janata Party leader Lal Kishenchand Advani on Thursday termed the Manmohan Singh government as a lame duck and said political uncertainity was prevailing in the country.
"When the UPA government came to power all the constituents were united, but now the situation is entirely different and alliance partners are behaving indifferently," Advani told PTI.
In an obvious reference to the present political scenario in the wake of ongoing developments on the nuclear deal issue, Advani said that uncertainity has loomed large in the country.
He was speaking after releasing the book Delhi Darbar penned by a Ravindra Dani, a journalist in a Marathi daily.
Advani recalled the days when Pandit Deen Dayal Upadhyaya for the first time in the history included Communists in government formation in Bihar.
Now, the era of singular polity has gone and bipolar polity has come to stay and there should not be any political untouchability, he said.
Advani added, "We (India) are a nuclear power country even if the western block does not recognise us."
Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh general secretary Mohan Bhagwat, BJP national general secretary Gopinath Munde and state BJP president Nitin Gadkari were present also present at the occasion.
Dani is the associate editor at the daily Tarun Bharat's Delhi office. Chairman of Narkesari Publications Vilas Dangre, which publishes Tarun Bharat, presided over the function.
Advani said it was the media and people like Dani who have painted a correct image of India, which has emerged as a superpower and retained democracy in the world.
Recalling his association with Dani, Advani said when Dani came to Delhi in 1988, it was the turning point for thew BJP, which rose from just two seats in 1984 to 86 seats in 1989. It was a historic year in the world when the Berlin wall collapsed signalling the end of the Communist era, he added.
Bhagwat, in his speech, lauded the good work done by the media especially dedicated journalists like Dani who do not change jobs for the sake of money. Munde, Gadkari and Dangre also spoke on the occasion.
